Stone Steps and Cypress

Hiking in California, especially somewhere like Point Lobos, is always a treat. Midday, but the sky had this real drama to it. Clouds moving fast, and then suddenly, a break. Just enough light hit these old stone steps right as I came around the bend.

You can see how the light picks out the texture in each step, almost inviting you up. Those gnarled trees, they just grow out of the rock, clinging on. Been here forever, probably seen a lot. The way they twist and turn, it's incredible.

It’s not a perfect sunny day shot, but that’s what makes it for me. The contrast, the mood. All that green growth fighting its way through the cracks in the rock, too. Just raw nature, carved with a bit of human touch.
