Deer in Wildflowers

Long lens

Sometimes the best shots happen when you least expect them. I was already leaving after a morning hike at Point Reyes National Seashore, just cruising along, heading back to the car. Figured the day's photography was done.

Then I saw this. A whole section of the hillside just carpeted in yellow wildflowers, dotted with those old grey rocks. And these deer, just perfectly settled in. One was looking right at me, calm as anything.

Had to stop. Threw the car in park, grabbed the long lens. Shot this one from inside the car, didn't even have time to get out properly. Just aimed out the window. That light, those colors, it was just too good to pass up. A perfect end to the hike.
